Q&A with Izzy Aldridge on “When Darkness Tries to Hide”

An Interview with Izzy Aldridge—Plymouth, Massachusetts

  1. Who could benefit from reading this book? I think any teenagers who are interested in creating a relationship with God would benefit highly from this book because it not only allows the readers to feel included and comfortable but also allows them to relate through the characters .
  2. What positive messages does this book convey to readers?  There are many positive messages in this book, some being to surround yourself with good people who have good intentions, to focus on the important things in life like God and healthy friendships, and to realize that drugs, alcohol and sex do not fulfill someone’s life.
  3. Why should teens read this book?  Teens should read this book because it will not only open their hearts and minds to a relationship with God but it will also teach teens the good things in life. It will allow them to understand that drugs and alcohol do not make them cool nor happy but that healthy relationships and good decisions will fulfill their lives .
  4. How has your opinion of Jason changed since reading the first MLH book?  When I read the first MLH book I had looked at character Jason as a bad teen who smokes, drinks, parties and does other harmful drugs. I saw Jason going down the same path as the other characters who got no sleep and did nothing but party. As I finished reading the second book my opinion has changed; I now look at Jason as a growing character who is looking to change his life for the better. Now that Jason realizes his wrongdoing and has talked to his ex -bestfriend Chris, he can focus on becoming closer to God and further from the devil.
  1. A main theme of this story is the battle between the dark and the light. When one is in darkness, he or she cannot see anything clearly. How does the last chapter relate to the events of the story and the theme of light vs. darkness?  The last chapter of the book explains character Jason realizing that he has been under the wing of the devil and blinded, this is why he could not see God calling him. Due to Jason being trapped in the dark he could not see any light of God until Chris came to talk to him. Chris was God reaching Jason, to help him. As Jason enters the light, he will grow his relationship with God and further become a better human/friend.
