The plot of “Gripped Part 3: The Fallout” by Stacy A. Padula handles subjects such as substance abuse and relationship problems, both of which are prevalent in the lives of young adults. This book shows how even those who think they are “experimenting” with drugs can become ensnared in a serious addiction, which can cost them more than they bargained for. Teens must know that when drugs are involved, relationships are strained, dreams are crushed, and lives are ruined.

Many parents don’t know what their teens are exposed to, or they take a “they’ll live and they’ll learn” approach to parenting. “Gripped Part 3” could act as a window for parents to see into the warzone that their children are faced with on a daily basis. After reading this book, adults can help their tweens and teens navigate the temptations that confront them as they begin to mature.

My investment in the characters’ lives kept me hooked until the last page. After reading Padula’s Montgomery Lake High series, and now Gripped, I enjoy watching the storylines begin to come together. Cathy’s storyline was the most fascinating to me because she is a very complex character. I can’t wait to learn more about her relationship with Marc, and I hope that she will make amends with Chantal.

This book teaches readers (including myself) that there are many reasons why people begin to use drugs. For some, they are prescribed medication and then become addicted to it. Some try to medicate themselves. Others just want to numb their pain or escape from reality for a while.
