Key Relationships Become Even More Complex in ‘Gripped Part 2: Blindsided’

Written by Sarah Parrish, Dover, Massachusetts

Sarah is a senior at Dover-Sherborn High School where she is captain of the Alpine Ski Team and the Track and Field Team. She is also a member of her school’s Peer Helping Club and Community Service club. Throughout the summer, Sarah works as a counselor at a local summer camp and also as a server at the Chatham Filling station. With a passion for leadership and athletics, she enjoys ski instructing at Burke Mountain and coaching field hockey for Dover-Sherborn Youth Field Hockey. She also enjoys her participation in the Senior High Youth Group at Pilgrim Church where she volunteers around her community. In her freetime, she enjoys boating, skiing, running and traveling.

Gripped Part 2: Blindsided by Stacy Padula reveals the way that drugs can take over the life of young kids and impact their relationships. The story starts by reintroducing Taylor Dunkin’s struggles with drug addiction and how it has affected his successful football career. However, his brother Marc, whom he is not on good terms with, has learned that Taylor is under investigation and must go to his house to deliver him a message. Meanwhile, on Taylor’s path to recovery, he continues to deal drugs even if he is not using them. The problem is that he is dealing drugs to Marc’s friend without him having any idea. This forces Marc’s girlfriend and his best friend to keep this a big secret from him.

Meanwhile, Lisa has her first experience with drugs and falls back into her old relationship with Chris. Chris has one unforgettable night that ends with him in the hospital and then he decides to end his relationship with Lisa to work on himself. Chris starts to distract himself with someone new, which is a very tangled web. Also, Cathy and Jason are falling deeper into their addictions, which ignites problems between them. The story leaves us to wonder how drugs will affect these relationships in the future. I can’t wait to read Gripped Part 3: The Fallout to find out!
